Exercises for the mind. Exercises for the body. Companionship. Community service. These are the mandate of the Hornby Island New Horizons Society.

The purpose of the Hornby Island New Horizons Society is to organize appropriate programs and activities for members who are 50 years and older. From September to March, one way we share with the community is by providing a ‘Literary Lunch’ for a nominal fee. Special speakers provide the entertainment. We also rent the facility for community events. The Society provides support for the Vancouver Island Regional Library by providing a leased space. This non-profit organization also supports and plans to house the Hornby Island Community Archives. In a separate building, the Society supports the Fabricators, which is a spinning and weaving group. For those members 70 years and older, a quiet and special Golden Lunch on alternate Mondays is available. In 2011, we have about 140 regular members and 26 lifetime members (over 80 years old).
